Hmmm...

So, I'm blogging. lol.  It's okay.  It'll all be  okay =)
I was recently told I pick out bad movies... what!!! I know!!! **GASP** I'm okay with it .... really.  NO!!! I don't !! I pick out everything.  I don't hate!!!  You only know what you do not like by seeing EVERYTHING!!!!  P.S. Don't see "The Passengers" with Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson.... it was contrived and stupid! It belonged on Lifetime, not a movie screen.  But, "Shag" C'mon JD =) FEEL GOOD!!!!! It is AWESOME!!!!!  It doesn't have to be a "good movie" to be awesome.  Bridget Fonda, Phoebe Cates.... Annabeth Gish.... SWOON =)  enough said! Haha... you can't think while watching movies like this!! If I thought about the movie, "Pretty Woman" every time I watched it I'd be disturbed that Julia Roberts is a hooker and is employed by Richard Gere to have sex with, but NO KISSING ON THE MOUTH!!
That's a good message ;^)

So... this has nothing to do with movies, but.... whatever!

I know that I am a supergeek.  It is a fact that I am well aware of!  I'm watching the Tony awards and every time the musicals perform..... I cry.  I'm not even really sure why, but there I sit literally balling my eyes out.   I love musicals!!  I think I secretly want to be a fantastic singer and actually be in a musical.  It's too bad I can't carry a tune to save my life =(  I am so infinitely sad that Rent is closing.  I'm at show #59.  ooooooo do I love Patti Lupone!!!!  I'm sad!

Movies, Crushes, Obsessions.... I'm a weirdo!

I have to be honest, these aren't even the beginning of all the movies I watch.  These are merely the ones I feel I must comment on.  I mean, I watched "27 Dresses", however that movie requires no commentary.  It was cute, but I mean c'mon within the first five minutes I figured out the plot line (some what). Where is the fun in that??  And I'm not even worthy enough to review "Juno".  All I can say is that it is FANTASTIC and I love it and Ellen Page 4-eva.... (kidding!) forever. LOL.
I've watched "Dirty Dancing" 30 or 40 times in the past 6 weeks because it's conveniently on COMCAST On Demand (even though I do own the movie.... yes, I know I make no sense).  I'm a creature of habit.  It's a good stand by for boredom, especially due to the fact that I have a bit of insomnia and nothing good is ever on past 1am.  I find Jennifer Grey extremely hott in this movie.  Oh man, the scene when she and Penny are practicing together for "the big show at the Sheldrake" HI? I die.
Some of my other favorite stand-bys  kind of follow a pattern (you'll see).....
1. "Mystic Pizza" (Julia Roberts, Lily Taylor, Annabeth Gish )
2. "Shag" (Annabeth Gish, Bridget Fonda, Phoebe Cates ... oh and a small appearance by my                            queen Carrie Hamilton (RIP) )
3. "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" ( Phoebe Cates, Jennifer Jason Leigh)
4. "Drop Dead Fred" (Phoebe Cates)
5. "Grease 2" (Michelle Pfeiffer, Lorna Luft)
6. "Single White Female" (Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Jason Leigh)
...... Read carefully or not because you'll see the pattern!!
I first must profess that these have been my obsession movies since I was little!!!  Hmmm.... Gay much??? I think so!!  My brother hated me until I got my own VCR because I made him watch each and every one.  I'm pretty sure "Girl For All Seasons"  from "Grease 2" was a favorite of his =)
On another note a movie I loved but always fast forwarded because I solely loved the dancing and the song, "Gloria", by the late Laura Branigan was "Flashdance".  I had this on permanent rental from my local video store.  I was all set with the sex and the welding, but I loved all the dancing, again and the sad ice skating scene that included the song "Gloria".  I actually had the record of the soundtrack ( and "Fame", "Grease", "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"( with Dolly and Burt Reynolds) , tons of show tunes, and "Fast Times At Ridgemont High").  I killed that record on my Fisher Price big Kid record player!!!  I had this "Get In Shape Girl" matching off the shoulder sweat shirty shirt, swaetbands, and leg warmers in lavender.  I thought I was BADASS.   I will say I saw "Flashdance" when I was 6 (a little inappropriate for a child but hey..), but I was so into all the dancing parts.  I watched the last scene at the prestigious dance school like a million times (later in life come to find out that in was not Jennifer Beals, but a double!!!).  My own dancing teacher dressed just like Jennifer Beals during the early to mid eighties.  I was obsessed with her.  Now when I see her it's just plain    awkward    =(

So ... I watched "The Golden Compass"... so what?!?!

"The Golden Compass"-
Ok. It was a long freakin movie, however, I liked it (in a non-conventional way).  I liked the Narnia movie too, though.  I read all "The Chronicles Of  Narnia" books when I was younger, but I hated the cartoon version they had out.  So, I never went to the movies to see it.  I hate really long movies that I know children will be at.  I know if I'm 28 and I get antsy and fidget....  a kid definitely will.  Nicole Kidman's non-moving, botoxed to the high heavens, face was really scary!!!! I loved the little girl, Liira, and the fact that she is going to be the hero.  The ending was such a "Back to the Future II" ending.... you know it led you right to the next step... than BOOM... to be continued.  UGH... I hate that!!!! Suspense is a bitch.  I'm an instant gratification kinda person in these cases.  Now, I have to wait for the sequel .. whenever that will be.  I like movies that stimulate the imagination here and there.   I'm still not over Nicole Kidman's face, man.  Botox is stupid for actors.  Isn't the emotion supposed to show in your face??? Hello?? I really like her too, but the no wrinkle forehead is creepy.  Jeez.... what ever happened to growing old gracefully?  Guess that idea has been shot to shit!

Wow. I Heart Hannah!!

Hannah Takes the Stairs-
First off, kudos to writers/actors in this film.  It was all the way indie (yeah!!!!) and in a word .... engaging.  The film was written by Greta Gerwig (my new crush), Kent Osbourne, Joe Swanberg (who directed as well), but also lists the rest of the cast as adding adding additional material ( very cool to get props for ad- libbing or fixing lines!!).  This movies is very much low budget and shot on a dv camera....  so I automatically loved it.
Now about the story.... Hannah is a twenty something playwright working for a tv show developing a pilot, but really all they do is goof off.  She is a serial dater who calls herself "chronically dissatisfied". NICE!!  She likes the smart, GEEKY, goofy kind of guys.  These are in fact pretty much the type of guys who she is surrounded by daily.  She infiltrates the overrated no dating in the work place line with ease.  I must say BRAVO to her ability to break up and move on rather quickly!!!  The movie basically revolves around Hannah and her "chronic dissatisfaction" with men.  There is a bit of full frontal on both the female and male end of things..... just a warning =)   Oh, I have to mention that there are some beautiful captures of awkward silence between Hannah and her guys.  It almost made me feel uncomfortable.   I loved it! And the last shot of the movie is priceless! (almost makes me want to take up the trumpet).

Hey! I Liked It!

The Goodnight-

So, yes I'm a geek and spent my Saturday night watching movies..... alone.  It's ok people.  I'm alright with it.  Don't hate =)
I vaguely remember hearing about this movie a while back. Gwyneth Paltrow's younger brother, Jake, directed and wrote it.  I totally high five him for this film!  I really liked it.  It was odd and quirky (two of my favorite things!!!).  Honestly it was a little (I repeat a LITTLE) David
Lynch-esque.
The premise is a follows: Gary, a member of a one hit wonder British band (who now makes commercial jingles), is becoming disenchanted with his maudlin day to day life.  His girlfriend. Dora (Gwyneth Paltrow), is becoming boring and predictable.  One night he has a dream involving the supposed girl of his dreams (and mine), Penelope Cruz (does it really matter what her name is in the film?!?).  Gary becomes infatuated with this woman and remaining with her in the dream state with her.  He seeks out the help of the "lucid dream guru" (intelligently played by Danny DeVito), who lives his life predominantly in a dream state.
As Gary's life in dreams progresses, he begins to lose touch with the outside world.  His girlfriend Dora's (Paltrow), strangely enough,  begins to appear as Penelope Cruz's voice..... in my estimation this shows that he is not completely out of love as he thinks he is.   As his days are good and bad, Penelope's voice bounces between her own Spanish accent and Dora's.   Randomly one day while crossing the street Gary sees his "dream girl" on some bus billboard.  He's baffled because he thinks that he dreamt her up on his own...... he learns she's a model.  He confides in his best friend, who in turn surprises him with a trip to a photo shoot to meet "dream girl", who is anything but.  I personally wanted to hit her every time she said the word "cool" which was a bit excessive.  Anyway,  she and Gary go out for drinks and makes the mistake of trying to morph her into his imaginary girl.  Ultimately, she thinks he's a freak and leaves.  This becomes a reality bitch slap.  He begins to realize he can't live in his bedroom asleep and thus realizes he misses and loves Dora.  In the end having Dora become his "dream girl", but is it too late ?????
It's an unconventional love story.  I like a good oddball tale.  Oh, and Gwyneth looks TERRIBLE, which I though was fantastic!!  And of course Penelope Cruz is HOT (but in the movie seemingly shallow and stupid)... HA HA.

P.S.  A funny little tidbit...... In bed Gary is reading "Middle East Conflict For Dummies" ... love the irony. Well Done!! lol

EH.....

Charlie Wilson's War-
Ok.  Again, I only watched this movie because Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman were in it.  I am going to say something that may piss a few people off.... I hate Tom Hanks.  There I said it.  There are only three movies I have ever enjoyed his performances in: "Splash", "Big" and "Philadelphia".  I'm sorry.  I hate his changing hairlines, weight gains and losses.... everything!! But back to more important points (and by reading these points you can see how much I "enjoyed" the film).... Julia Roberts' hair was blond. What?
I mean the movie was OK.  The premise was pretty good.  That being that Tom Hanks' character, Senator Charlie Wilson (a women loving lush), embarks on a plan to help solve issues in the Middle East completely funded by Julia Roberts' Southern belle riches.  Philip Seymour Hoffman plays an unlikely aid of sorts (again I love when he plays smug and grim) to Charlie Wilson.  To be honest I felt like I was watching Tom Hanks in the absolutely sucky movie, "Bonfire Of the Vanities".  I was not crazy about it and Roberts' lacked her usual spunk.  It was Blaaah.  If you disagree.... I don't care =)
